Managing Occupational Violence and Aggression

Did you know that in the last five years, there has been a 56% increase in the number of serious workers' compensation claims for assault and exposure to workplace violence (Safe Work Australia, 2024)?

In fact a 2023 survey of more than 4600 retail workers reported 87% of workers experienced verbal abuse from a customer, 12.5% reporting physical violence, and 52% reported they had the same customer act abusive or violent on more than one occasion.

Similar findings were had in the real estate industry, where 60% of property managers in Australia rated dealing with aggressive and abusive landlords and tenants as the biggest challenge in their job.

These harmful behaviours represent significant workplace risks to workers.
